Italy (I)

The time has come to show you some of the moments captured in this toobadit'soversuperlovely trip and tell you a bit of what we've seen.

First stop - Venice. As we parked our car in Mestre, we had to take the bus to Venice. It was only a 10 minutes bus ride but as we got closer to the city we could see more and more raindrops on the bus' windows. Crap! It's exactly what I didn't want to see after leaving winter behind in Germany. Finally we arrived at the destination and, of course, it was raining quite heavily. All I could see were the dozens of tourists running from one side to another, and us with the luggage in our hands, a map, an umbrella (for me), we had to find the hotel for the night. So our hands got even more full, with the hotel vouchers and my phone on which I had the GPS. Marvelous!
Finally we got to the hotel, which luckily, was quite close. There we just dropped everything in our room and ran to see the city around. We took the waterbus down the Grand Canale up to Piazza San Marco. The old buildings, the bridges and the narrow streets, the tourists, the souvenirs shops and the merchants on the streets made everything seem so vintage, so fairytale like. The only thing ruining the joy was the drizzle which soon turned into a pouring rain. After wandering the streets of Venice, we got hungry and we stepped in the first restaurant that we saw. As expensive as it was, I can't say I liked it too much, not to mention that a "Milanese steak" is actually a "schnitzel". Anyway, at least we were not hungry anymore, but we were already quite tired, so we went back to the hotel. The next morning, the weather got a bit better (yay for the pics!) and after having breakfast we wandered the streets some more before leaving for our next destination. I couldn't leave though without a mask and a fancy fan...oh, lovely Venice.

Second stop - Bologna. Or the red city, as it is called because of the red color of the buildings. The weather didn't get better here, on the contrary, the whole day was pouring. Even so, we took the map and visited all the important sights. We even took a break and had a coffee on a terrace, even if it was quite cold outside. What I particularly liked about this city was the fact that all the sidewalks were covered with some kind of roof from the building nearby, so even if it was raining you could walk almost the whole center without getting very wet. Under these roofs were also the terraces, and of course, each and single human being who got out of the house on that kind of weather. Crowded, you can imagine.
As the evening came, so did our hunger and we searched for a restaurant quite a lot until we gave up and went to the hotel. There was full of cafes, pizzerias, trattorias and the very few restaurants which we saw were closed. In the end, we were recommended a restaurant from the hotel, which was quite nice, but of course that something had to happen to me. Since tortellini are specific from Bologna I said I had to taste them , so I ordered some tortellini from the menu. And when I say some it's because I didn't understand completely what I ordered since the menu was only in Italian and even though Romanian language is similar to Italian, that was a weird menu, I'm telling you. I found myself in front of a tortellini soup, which was good, but not exactly what I wanted that very instant. So I decided to eat only pizza the next days, just to be sure.

The next morning the sun was finally shining. Perfect moment for a breakfast in the sun, on a terrace, in the old city center. I was finally able to enjoy some rays of sun and warmth. Perfect day, or so we thought until we left for our next destination...

    1. Thank you! Indeed, when I see or hear steak , I think of the genuine American steak :-)

As in for the "red city" nickname I think we are both right, it comes both from the red buildings and roofs and political views, or that's how I read. :)
