VELVET, a silken textile fabric having a short dense piled surface. In all probability the art of velvet-weaving originated in the Far East; and it is not till about the beginning of the 14th century that we find any mention of the textile. The peculiar properties of velvet, the splendid yet softened depth of dye-colour it exhibited, at once marked it out as a fit material for ecclesiastical vestments, royal and state robes, and sumptuous hangings; and the most magnificent textures of medieval times were Italian velvets [...]. The earliest sources of European artistic velvets were Lucca, Genoa, Florence and Venice, which continued to send out rich velvet textures. As an introduction, I wanted to tell you a few words about this fabric, which is very on TREND now. We can see it everywhere, starting with the fashion magazines to catwalks and street style fashion. Blouses, dresses, pants, jackets, boots, chokers, you can find almost everything made out of this soft fabric, which was actually associated with nobility in the early times.
Among the inspirational collages I also made some collages with beautiful velvet pieces which I found on Zaful.com and which I totally love: midi & mini dresses, midi skirts, cold-shoulder blouses, you can find them all HERE at amazing prices. You have direct links to all the products below the photos.
Let me know which is your favourite piece and whether you like velvet this season or not.
Love, A.
